Programme 04

Industrial closed-loop systems and material circularity

Bring recovered materials back into production. Connect origin, processing and qualification to the requirements of your industrial application.

Plastic fragments, pellets and a technical part, shown as examples of transformation stages.

What we do

Industrial closed-loop is an arrangement for returning materials to production or the supply chain defined by the project. Circuvia connects origin, preparation and recycling processes, quality requirements and final application to structure a cycle with demonstrable reincorporation.

Scope and deliverables

From source to reintroduction into production.

Loop boundary

Defined origin, materials, destination products and chain-of-custody model.

Technical route

Segregation, preparation, processing, capacity, yield and expected losses.

Qualification plan

Application requirements, testing, pilot batches, responsible parties and approval criteria.

Reincorporation routine

Conditions for supply, receipt, use in the product and variation monitoring.

Situations that create an opportunity.
  • A target to reincorporate material into your own supply chain.
  • Production leftovers or returned products with potential for a new application.
  • Difficulty connecting the recycler, compounder and converter.
  • An approved sample that has not yet become a repeatable supply.
The loop closes in the application, with material actually used.

An important decision

Buying a recycled resin can be a useful choice without representing the return of your own material. The project must specify whether it uses physical segregation, controlled mixing or another form of tracking. The comparison also includes open-loop routes where they better serve the application.

Material stream

Origin, transformation and return to the application within the defined supply chain.

The service pathway

The loop closes with reincorporation.

Material recovery is one stage. The program connects origin, processing, validation and verified return to the defined chain.

The loop closes at the industrial application.

Recovered material, technical approval and reintegration must be connected. Losses and non-returning fractions have defined destinations.

Stage

Define origin and application

Loop boundary, product requirements and traceability method.

Stage

Segregate and process

Preparation, recycling and formulation with identified lots.

Decision

Material validated in the application?

Testing, pilot and agreed technical and economic criteria.

If approved

Reincorporate and substantiate

Record use, quantities and losses in the chain defined for the project.

If not approved

Review process or material

Address deviations and retest before approving return to production.

Frequently asked questions

Before starting.

Does closed-loop require an owned factory?

No. The solution can combine the customer's processes with partner capabilities. The decision considers quality, logistics, cost and availability.

Is every use of PCR a closed loop?

No. PCR describes the post-consumer origin of recycled material. Closed-loop describes the arrangement for return to production or a defined supply chain, which must be demonstrated.

Does the programme grant certification?

The project organises the stream and its evidence. Certifications have their own criteria, audits and bodies, and are assessed separately when part of the need.

Can complete replacement of virgin resin be guaranteed?

The feasible proportion depends on the material and application requirements. It must be established through development, testing and qualification, with no universal percentage.
